Hrynko Named to Dawn Staley Award Watch List - DePaul University Official Athletic Site

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul junior guard Brittany Hrynko was named to the 2014 Dawn Staley Award Watch List as announced by the The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. Established in 2013, the Dawn Staley Award recognizes the nation’s best Division I women’s basketball guard

. The award is given annually to a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed throughout her career -- ball handling, scoring, the ability to distribute the basketball and the will to win.

Hrynko leads the Blue Demons and ranks 33rd in Division I with 5.6 assists per game.  The Philadelphia native, has recorded six or more assists in 11 games this season and distributed a career-high 12 against Washington on Dec. 20, 2013.

For her career, Hyrnko has 20 six-plus assists games and has started the last 86 straight games for the Blue Demons.

For the 2013-14 season, Hrynko is averaging 12.5 points per game and has reach double-figures in her last six games and eight of her last nine.  The guard has four 20-point scoring performances this season and 11 in her career.

Hyrnko, like Staley, both hail from the Philadelphia Public Schools. Hrynko attended Engineering and Science and Staley went to Dobbins Tech.

Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame) was last year’s inaugural Dawn Staley award winner.

The Dawn Staley Aaward will be announced during Final Four weekend, while an award ceremony will be held in April, 2014 at the Union League of Philadelphia.
