By: Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston MarathonThere is an expression in marathon running that you go through a lifetime of experience every time you run one. It's absolutely true, because the marathon is not just something you can go out and do; you need to train for it. It takes a long time to be able to run for 26 miles, 385 yards, and that means discipline and sacrifice.

Phone: 509-577-7689 YAKIMA, Wash. -- You could say Kathrine Switzer’s greatest claim to fame was the day she took one small step for woman, one giant leap for womankind. Except that it was more like, oh, 40,000 steps — roughly the number of strides required to cover the 26 miles and 385 yards of a marathon. Oh, she’s done plenty since the April day in 1967 when she ran her first marathon.

Russia just hiked up Ukraine's gas prices for the 2nd time in a week

Russia raised the gas price for Ukraine on Thursday for the second time this week, almost doubling it in three days and piling pressure on a neighbor on the brink of bankruptcy in the crisis over Crimea. The increase, announced in Moscow by Russian natural gas producer Gazprom, means Ukraine will pay 80 percent more for its gas than before the initial increase on Monday.

One of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s favorite sports is the martial art of judo where performing a chokehold can critically reduce air or in this case natural gas from passing through the neck of an opponent. On 3 April, Russia increased the gas price for Ukraine to $485 per 1,000 cubic metres and urged Kiev to pay its $2.2 billion debt.

MOSCOW — Russia's top natural gas producer, Gazprom, said on Tuesday it was increasing the gas price for Ukraine by more than 40 percent to be $385.5 per 1,000 cubic metres in the second quarter from the previous rate of $268.5. The decision, which had been clearly flagged by President Vladimir Putin, ended a discount that had been agreed in December, before the crisis over the ouster of Ukraine's Moscow-backed president and Russia's annexation of Crimea.
