Employment rates for people with a serious mental illness are dismally low and getting worse, according to a report from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Just 17.8 percent of people receiving public mental health services were employed in 2012 – down from 23 percent in 2003. That’s an unemployment rate of more than 80 percent. “It isn’t surprising,” says Sita Diehl, director of state policy at NAMI and author of the report.

Australia’s jobless rate returned to match the highest in a decade as employers cut full-time payrolls and more people sought work in June, underscoring the likelihood interest rates will remain at a record low. The unemployment rate rose to 6 percent from a revised 5.9 percent, the statistics bureau said in Sydney today, matching the highest since July 2003. The number of people employed rose by 15,900.

(Michael Mulvey) U.S. workers at large companies can expect median base salary increases of 3% next year, in line with the past four years, according to a survey by consulting firm Hay Group . After figuring inflation, however, the median pay increases will be 0.9%, down from the 1.6% rise forecast for this year. Some sectors, however, will see stronger raises according to Hay Group.
